Where your money goes

The split

10%
90%

Straight into projects: water, housing, education and emergency relief.

10%

Keeps the charity running, safely and properly.

What does the 10% actually pay for?

Not every pound can go straight out the door. Before aid reaches anyone, we need to check it's going to the right people, keep an eye on how projects are progressing, and have our books independently checked. That's what the 10% covers:

Vetting

checking partners and beneficiaries before funds move

Monitoring

following projects through to completion

Accountability

independent checks on our accounts each year

Safeguards

controls against fraud and misuse of funds

Tick Gift Aid, and 100% goes further

If you're a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid lets us reclaim an extra 25p for every £1 you give, direct from HMRC, at no cost to you. That extra amount is what we use to cover admin, so your own donation goes to the project in full.

You give £100, no Gift Aid£90 to the project, £10 to admin
You give £100 and tick Gift Aid£115 to the project, £10 to admin

If you're giving Zakat

This one works differently: every penny of Zakat you give reaches Zakat-eligible people and purposes. We never take our admin costs out of Zakat, that side of things is paid for separately, from general donations and Gift Aid.

These are STEP Foundation's own policy targets, agreed by our trustees, and our full accounts are filed each year with the Charity Commission. Questions? See our Refund Policy, our Privacy Policy, or email info@step-foundation.org.uk.
